Summer Camps 
for kids taught by Baskets of Yarn!

Baskets of Yarn will be offering day camps this summer during June and July at Providence Day and Charlotte Latin.  Each session runs from Monday to Friday, and campers can attend in the morning (9:00am – 12:00pm) or the afternoon (1:00pm – 4:00pm) sessions. We are offering a variety of camps throughout the summer at various times, two locations, and for ages 5 to 17 so there is sure to be something for everyone and plenty to keep young knitters and crocheters busy all summer.  Sign up for as many camps as you would like!  We can’t wait to be a part of your summer fun!

Baskets of Yarn Summer Camp Descriptions

Knitting I:  This camp is where you get started on a lifetime of knitting fun!  Learn all the basics, such as casting on, the knit stitch, and binding off in a kid-friendly, hands-on setting.  Registration for this camp includes bamboo knitting needles, several skeins of yarn, steel yarn needles, a Kids’ Knitting book, and of course a knitting basket!  Come join us for tons of beginning knitting fun!

         
Knitting II:  Knitting II is for campers who have mastered the basics and are ready for more!  In this camp, we will teach you how to read knitting patterns, use circular and double pointed needles, to increase and decrease, and make holes in your knitting (on purpose!).  Registration for this camp includes circular and double pointed bamboo needles, several skeins of yarn, a knitting notebook and a variety of patterns.  Knitting II will take your knitting to the next level!  Note:  Campers signing up for Knitting II must have taken Knitting I, or already be able to cast on, do the knit stitch, and bind off on their own.

Felting:  Felting is the art of shrinking wool!  Felting makes adorable purses and hats, cozy slippers and mittens, and lots of handy household items.  This week, campers will learn how to knit items for felting, and how to wash them so they become thick and fuzzy.  Additionally, campers will try their hand at needle felting, a waterless method that makes outstanding ornaments.  Registration for this camp includes circular knitting needles, stitch markers, several skeins of yarn, a felting needle, roving wool, and a book on felting.  Join us to learn a fuzzy and fun new fiber art!  Note:  Campers signing up for Felting must have taken Knitting I, or already be able to cast on, do the knit stitch, and bind off on their own.

Knitting with Wire and Beads:  Knitting with wire is a cool, contemporary way to make jewelry and other awesome decorations.  Participants in this camp will use needles, wire, beads, and their own imaginations to make bracelets, baskets, and other objects you never would have thought of knitting.  Registration for this camp includes a copy of the book Knitting with Wire and the materials to make several different projects.  Come and see what happens when you look at knitting a whole new way!  Note:  Campers signing up for Knitting with Wire and Beads must have taken Knitting I, or already be able to cast on, do the knit stitch, and bind off on their own.

Teen Knitting Club:  This camp is for teens ages 13-15 who love to knit or want to learn; any experience level is welcome!  We will try a little bit of everything during this busy week, including the basic but beautiful boa, cute knitted accessories, felting purses, and knitting jewelry from wire and beads.  Registration for this class includes a set of bamboo knitting needles, several skeins of yarn, a copy of the Teen Knitting Club book, and materials to make a variety of exciting projects.  Come for a week of cool, crafty fun with friends your own age!
