Kid's Summer Camps taught by Baskets of Yarn!
This summer Baskets of Yarn is offering fun camps for children rising Kindergarten through 6th grade at Providence Day School. The classes to choose from are Crochet, Crochet Jewelry, Knitting 1 & 2, and Weaving! This is a great opportunity to register your children or grandchildren for a week of summer fun with Baskets of Yarn. Camp Descriptions
Knitting I: Boys and girls rising grades K - 6 will learn all the basics of knitting, such as casting on, the knit stitch, and binding off in a kid-friendly, hands-on setting. In addition to learning the basics we will also dye yarn, make decorative needle toppers using polymer clay, finger knit and more! Projects will include bracelets, necklaces, a belt and a dishcloth. All of the materials including knitting needles, yarn, patterns and more are provided. Campers will have a Basket of Yarn and plenty of projects completed and in the works at the end of the week!
Knitting II: Boys and Girls rising grades 2-6 who can meet the pre-requisite (Knitting 1 or can demonstrate all of the basics as described in Knitting 1) will move beyond the basics as we teach them how to purl, increase, decrease, read patterns, make i-cords and more in this fun week full of knitting! In addition we will make polymer clay buttons and beads to add to the purses and necklaces we make and will learn to finish off pieces with decorative fringe. Projects will include a purse, a necklace, a scarf and a dishcloth. All of the materials including knitting needles, yarn, patterns and more are provided. Campers will have a Basket of Yarn and plenty of projects completed and in the works at the end of the week!
Crochet: Boys and girls rising grades K - 6 will learn to crochet while making a variety of crafts including a belt, a loopy scarf, a necklace, a purse and more! We will teach the basics of crochet and open up a whole new world of yarn crafts for your child. All of the materials are included and your child will have a Basket of Yarn and plenty of projects completed and in the works at the end of the week!
Crochet Jewelry: Boys and girls rising grades 2 - 6 will in this fun camp, with no experience needed, create baubles and treasures with a crochet hook, yarn, wire, beads, sequins and more! We will teach the basics of crochet as we are making beautiful and wearable object of art! In addition we will also make some of our own beads using polymer clay to incorporate into our jewelry. All of the materials including hooks, yarn, wire, patterns and more are provided. Your child will have a Basket of Yarn and plenty of projects completed and in the works at the end of the week!
Weaving: Boys and girls rising grades K - 6 will, without any experience needed, work with a variety of materials as the children learn to weave! We will use paper, yarn, plastic, and wire as we create new works of art. Some of the projects will be wearable art, while others will be suitable for museum quality framing! This class will teach children to look at the world in a new way and imagine all of the possibilities for turning trash into recycled woven treasures. All of the materials for this camp are included in the registration fee. Your child will have a Basket of Yarn and plenty of projects completed and in the works at the end of the week!
